Denim on denim...

Ksubi's doing it, Bassike has done it and style blogs are all over it. But trends aside, we reckon a denim on denim comeback doesn't look too bad!

A new drop is currently being edited and will be uploaded very soon. These two denim shirts included. Keep an eye out and an ear to the ground. First in, first served.

Terrible twosome...

A friend of mine not only lent his body for new product shots this week, but also offered (was bribed?) to scout the countryside in a bid to bring the best of the best to my lovely gran's loose change customers.

(You may not realise this, but I work full time. And have gran's loose change on top of that. Hence the buyer extraordinaires and hence the help of trusted friends every now and then!)

Anyway, back to this friend of mine... so, Finn has enlisted the assistance of his right hand man and together, they are trekking off into the distance to bring home the goods. You might know them better as Prom Queen and Queen, (although they will argue Prom King and King).

They usually look like this for the record...

I don't know what's worse to be honest (just kidding boys!) They know the rules though, "Don't come home without the booty"...!

Keep an eye out, new product will be pouring in the next couple of weeks, and we're not going to advertise when it's up. You'll just have to keep stopping by...!
Sneaky aye... good luck boys!

Let the good times roll...

Following on from Josh's buying escapades (he dumped a bag full of goodies on my desk this week by the way - a fur bag to DIE for, boys jumpers and jackets and more) we have enlisted the help of a second buyer extraordinaire. Introducing.....Erin! Erin starts her mission tomorrow and will have two weeks to source only the best buys for our lovely gran's loose change customers. Want to know more? Me too...!

Hi Erin,
What are three things you do outside of work? Hobbies?

I love to design and make my own clothes, I enjoy taking photos and I love to op-shop

gran's loose change wants to go to London...

So, it's not vintage but it is pretty rad. A London lover sent us All Saints lookbook and we are in love. Such good layering, such great shoes, oohhh la-la, the London supplier is looking more and more promising. What do you think?

Lookie lookie what I have here...

Winter, to me, is all about layering. I am consistently in tights or skinny jeans, oversized tees and singlets with jumpers, denims or leathers thrown on top. It's not overly creative but it's quick, it's easy and it works.

However, after scouring through thrift stores, sifting through old photographs of my gran, checking out the latest looks by sass & bide and pouring over snaps on The Sartorialist I'm thinking I might step outside of my comfort zone. Maxi dresses and skirts, here I come.

Our 'Carry me like a feather' pleated maxi skirt sold within the first week we launched, so we are on the lookout for more, for sure. Keep an eye out for new products coming soon :)

Let's hear it for the boys...

We know....there is FAR more selection for the girls than there is for the boys. This is a deliberate decision because there are FAR more girls buying online than boys. However, we do make an extra effort to deliver the goods to the people. And the people are saying: "More boys stuff please!" So...I have tracked down my male model, agreed on a Wednesday photo shoot and product will be uploaded Thursday. Keep an eye out.... in the meantime, be inspired and get shopping!...

Hello. Hi. This is me...

After introducing you all to Josh, I have had a number of emails asking about me. ME?! I'm honoured you want to get to know me!...

From (officially) 8am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, I can be found working in the wonderful world of marketing, advertising, PR, web and events. I work across fashion, local government, commercial and retail (and am probably forgetting something else, no doubt).

From 4.30pm til bedtime I can be found measuring product; uploading; packaging; thinking up quirky product names; updating the blog; photographing; editing; planning my novel that will one day be written; freelance writing (for mags such as Sideroom and Beauty Bible); and daydreaming about overseas adventures.

In the weekends, I can be found at garage sales, op-shops, antique stores or Major Toms in the Mount; Auckland; Hamilton; the BF's parents place for Sunday night dinners (Delicious! And there's ALWAYS homemade dessert to accompany homemade dinners...!); or other destinations in New Zealand sourcing product for gran's loose change.

Hello. Hi. This is me.

If you were to ask me the same questions I have asked Josh, and will ask other buyers, I would say something like this...

How would you describe your personal style? Black, boyish and oversized.

What/who do you find most inspiring? Bret Easton Ellis and James Frey (authors); Erin Wasson, Taylor Tomasi and Christine Centenera (fashion); friends, art and family.

Your three wardrobe essentials? Oversized black tees, black tights, black cardies.

What will you be wearing this winter? Chunky winter knits, vintage ankle boots and textured tights.

One thing you couldn't live without? Hope.

Introducing...

So, we have our first male buyer on board. His objective: to source the best, most interesting, original male clothing gran's loose change has seen. He has money to burn and two weeks to complete his mission. Introducing...

Josh... he's a scientist (actually); a surfer; a part-time bartender and cougar-hunter; and one hell of a vintage shopper. He has more shoes in his wardrobe than most girls could hope for and is happy to be woken up at 6am to get dragged round garage sales. In fact, he often ends up with the best of the loot. Here's what he has to say:

How would you describe your personal style: Mish Mash.

What/who do you find most inspiring? Justin Bobby, Ozzie Wright and kids on the street.

Your three wardrobe essentials: Socks, undies, wifebeaters.

What will you be wearing this winter? 90s surfwear.

One thing you couldn’t live without: Friends and family

The products Josh buys will be listed accordingly on gran's loose change and we'd love your feedback... keep checking in to see how his progress is going and remember, email us at hello@gransloosechange.co.nz if YOU want a chance to be a gran's loose change buyer extraordinaire.

gran's loose change hearts Jake Macartney...

Soooo you know how we asked what you thought of the wonderfully talented Jake Macartney a little while ago? Yeah, well it seems we're not the only ones that think he's pretty neat. Runamuk Visuals think he is too.

If you want to purchase or commission an original JM print, shoot us an email at hello@gransloosechange.co.nz

Lady love of the moment...

Christine Centenera

Some girls get all the luck. Amazingly beautiful, skin to die for, fashion editor of Australian Harper's Bazaar, unique and individual style, a wardrobe I'd give my granny away for AND fashion designer Josh Goot as her BF. Jealous much?

* I would never ACTUALLY give my granny away but I needed to express just how much I love this woman. Sorry Gran, you're still my number one! Promise!

Brrr it's cold in here...

Be inspired and then buy your own. Furs, leopard, vests and more, ready and waiting online now...

So you want to be a millionaire...?

gran's loose change is growing rapidly - so much so that we can't keep up with stock supply, due to this thing called 'a day job'. And because we LOVE our shoppers so very much we are putting it to the people. Yes, that's you. What we want is vintage lovers / op-shoppers who have a bit of spare time on their hands. We will PAY for you to source a certain amount of product in a certain amount of time from your respective home towns AND pay you a commission on the products that sell. Sound good? We thought so.

Email me at hello@gransloosechange.co.nz for a proper brief. Conditions apply. And tell your friends.

* You won't really become a millionaire but it will be a LOT of fun.

Lust-have look...

A few months back I was all about the stacked bracelet, now it's all about the layered up rings. I personally wear a collection of vintage (my great aunt's gold and diamond band; my great grandmother's Cameo; and my gran's gold, pearl and diamond) and mix them up with knuckledusters, 'Love' rings, 'Peace' rings, cheapies, skulls and stacked up gems. How do you wear yours?
