Weekend wanders...

gran's loose change had a busy weekend spent with friends visiting from out of town. There wasn't a lot of op-shopping going on but we did drink tea out of china tea cups and we did measure some of the new product. So that counts right? The Mount was a mish mash of sun and rain and we even witnessed a hail storm over the beach from our sun room.

We also caught up with Jasmin Sparrow who is making the move to Wellington from Waihi and we chatted about new products. And the good news, is that the prices have been lowered which means it makes SO much more sense to pick yourself up a one-of-a-kind Jasmin Sparrow handmade dress, singlet or top. Click here to view our range.

We've now moved into fourth place in the Front Row Diary comp which is pretty disappointing, it just seems the other girls have more time to campaign which means they deserve to win, right? Maybe. Click HERE to vote for me and this week might just see my hard work pay off. Five days to go!

Happy Monday followers, enjoy your day x

When is just right too much?

I love nothing more than an eclectic mixed grunge style, Mary Kate Olsen is a queen at throwing things together and has been quoted as saying she doesn't use a stylist. Guess what MK Olsen?! Me neither! MK Olsen rocks a check shirt better than most celebs and makes 'designer hobo' fashion easy to take inspiration from. Check out some of my 'yes' MK looks.

I do however think there is such a thing as TOO much vintage and suddenly grunge becomes gross. MK is also a queen at getting it oh so wrong! Check out my take on it over here at FashioNZ and while we're talking about this particular blog post, it got me selected as a finalist in the Front Row Diary fashion week blogging comp and I need your votes! Click here, scroll to the bottom of the page and click vote. Easy as that! And please do it every day until September 3rd. Aww glc followers, I heart you. Happy Thursday!

Summer lovin', I dream of thee...

Have you noticed the dark winter nights have started to get shorter? And it's staying a little lighter a little longer? Spring is on it's way and with spring comes summer and I, for one, can. not. wait.

Summer to me, is all about pretty floral dresses, Havaianas and vintage sandals, headscarves and turbands, sun, sand, surf and boys without their shirts on. (Okay, got a little carried away there...)

While summer is still a few months away, we have already started scouting for stock and cannot wait to get it uploaded (we're aiming for late September so stock up on winter goodies while you can!).

The best part of spring slash summer? Denim cut offs.

You may have thought this was a post for the ladies, but fellas, check out this dude! Killing it!

Why? Who?

gran's loose change is in serious talks with the fabulous and talented team behind whywho shoes and could be stocking limited styles and sizes as early as November (just in time for Christmas!)

What do you think? Would you buy them?

Would they be a good addition to the Shop New section?

And what sizes would you most like to see stocked?

The World at Your Feat...

Our friends over at The World at Your Feat featured us on their blog today. It's a super cool blog that talks about shoes, inspiration, fashion and well, shoes. It's definitely worth a read and is updated daily. Add it to your bookmarks right NOW!

Help Kelly get to Fashion Week...!

A little while back gran's loose change director, Kelly, entered the Front Row Diary fashion week writing competition. Due to lack of time and being ridiculously busy, she submitted a blog piece she had written for FashioNZ and forgot all about it. She was contacted on Friday and was announced as one of the five deserving finalists!! In other words, Kelly is in the running to be New Zealand's next top.... fashion writer!!! The winner gets to sit front row with Anna Fitzpatrick of Front Row Diary and the acclaimed blogger Rumi Neely. The rules are simple, the winner is based on votes. Only one vote per IP server per day (which means only one person at your house, work, wherever) until the 2 September. So help her get to Fashion Week. You don't need to register to vote, all you have to do is click HERE!!, scroll to the bottom of the page and click vote. So go on, do it!!!

Calling all up-and-coming designers...

As a company that was born out of a wild and courageous dream gran's loose change is on the hunt for equally brave, talented and interesting designers. We spend our nights scouring design, homewares, art, vintage, fashion and jewellery sites and blogs and now we want to support and promote you. Yes you!

Our plan is to grow our Shop New section and to make new friends. Check out our current new designers here d_luxe jewellery, Jasmin Sparrow, Neverland Collective. ... We want to grow this selection of designers so we are calling out to you - all up-and-coming, new or never been seen before designers, shoot Kelly an email at hello@gransloosechange.co.nz, include examples of your work and let's chat.

We are open to New Zealand and Australian designers... so what are you waiting for?

Making friends...

We stumbled across reasonably new site Deracs.com late last week, and this week, we feature on the site! Check it out here.

Deracs.com is 'in the know about the latest fashion, photography and events'. Follow them on facebook here. Thanks Deracs x

Treasure hunting...

We had big plans this weekend - early morning garage sales and thrifting, but the weather changed everything. It poured and poured and poured some more here in Mount Maunganui, so our weekend was spent nestled up at home by the fire watching movies. Although if we HAD gone garage sale-ing, I wish they'd been as interesting as these...

Get snap happy...!

We want to say thank you to our followers for your continued support! Sooooo, post a pic of yourself wearing gran's loose change on our facebook page and tell us in one sentence why you should win a $100 voucher for the site.

Here's a few snaps we've managed to find (steal?) of gran's loose change customers.

Left: Shelter from the Storm GAP knit

Left: Harlequin light knit

Left: Denim shirt that didn't quite make it to the site (but was bought for that reason so it still counts!)

Note! These photos were stolen, we were not given permission to use them, but we know you love us so you won't mind too much! Aye? Aye! Thank you, love you xx

B is for Bangin'.

And by bangin' I mean boys... I often post Friday inspiration posts that consist of celebs or fashionistas with a little bit of somethin' somethin'. I always have trouble finding boys. Justin Bobby tops my list for grungy cool street style but I can't think of any other boys off the top of my head.

Girls, now girls I could rattle off for days: Jessica Hart, Erin Wasson, Whitney Port, Kate Bosworth - they all have killer style...

But help me out here, which boys are bangin' with good style?

Lace, lace baby...

Images courtesy of Lookbook

According to Wikipedia lace is: 'an openwork fabric patterned with open holes in the work, made by machine or by hand. The holes can be formed via removal of threads or cloth from a previously woven fabric, but more often open spaces are created as part of the lace fabric. A true lace is created when a thread is looped, twisted or braided to other threads independently from a backing fabric.

Originally linen, silk, gold or silver threads were used. Now lace is often made with cotton thread. A few modern artists make lace with a fine copper or silver wire instead of thread.'

We say lace is 'hot'. Simple as that.
